According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 13 African countries have reported yellow fever cases since 2023. Among them is Uganda, which has recently taken aggressive action to reduce the spread of the disease. As of May 2025, nearly 4.3 million people aged 9 months to 60 years have been vaccinated in 19 districts across the country’s eastern region, aiming to contain the impact of yellow fever in the most high-risk areas. Despite this huge accomplishment, Uganda’s national vaccine coverage remains at 39%. The country is also surrounded by neighbours constantly affected by the disease, including Kenya, where an outbreak was recently declared. Kenya’s yellow fever vaccine coverage rates are only 6%.
