What happened

Following four years of development, India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) unveiled a prototype humanoid robot designed to assist with frontline missions. Although full details have been kept secret, reports suggest that the robot can walk on two legs and has articulated upper limbs, features that would allow it to traverse difficult terrain and handle hazardous materials. The DRDO has developed prototypes for both the upper and lower body of the robot, which consists of a complex operating system that functions through a combination of advanced software and sensors. Despite its autonomous capabilities, the robot will have built-in safeguards to ensure that critical combat decisions require direct human oversight. This project comes amid growing regional tensions, pushing India to develop advanced battlefield technology, and it is expected to be completed by 2027.
