What happened

The latest round of talks in Muscat, Oman, about nuclear matters between Iran and the United States have ended. According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Iran is prepared to restrict its uranium enrichment rate ‘to foster trust’ with the United States. He stated unequivocally that the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program, intended for peaceful applications, remains a point of contention. Minister Araqchi asserted that Tehran’s stance has converged with that of the United States; however, he recognized that the transition from broad principles to specific ‘details’ has introduced complexities into the negotiations. The Iranian Minister indicated that Tehran might consider accepting limitations in certain aspects, such as the amount, level, or ability of uranium enrichment. The United States characterized this phase of negotiations as ‘encouraging,’ emphasizing the meeting’s value in furthering discussions and progressing on the technical aspects of the nuclear matter.
