What happened

Google and Elementl Power have signed an agreement to develop three advanced nuclear power plants (NPP) in the United States, each with a capacity of at least 600 MW. The locations of the three sites have not yet been announced. The agreement is part of Google‘s ongoing commitment to procure clean, 24/7 baseload power to support its operations and strengthen electric grids, while achieving net-zero emissions by 2030. At the same time, it will help Elementl Power achieve its goal of bringing more than 10 gigawatts of next-generation nuclear power to the United States by 2035. The deal, the value of which has not yet been disclosed, follows another nuclear power agreement signed by Google in 2024 to generate 500 MW by 2035. Other leading-edge tech companies have recently entered into agreements to use nuclear technology in order to power their data centres.
