The fourth round of talks between Iran and the United States on Tehran’s nuclear programme, originally scheduled for 3 May, will now commence on 11 May in Muscat, the capital of Oman, which is mediating the negotiations. These meetings were initiated in the aftermath of Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018, with the previous gatherings commencing nearly a month ago. Even though both parties have reported progress since the previous round of talks, there remains a divergence of opinion about Iran’s right to enrich uranium. Western countries have accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons for some time, while Tehran insists that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.
