The Cyber Branch of the Tamil Nadu Police has released an advisory regarding potential cyber attacks directed at Indian citizens, prompted by the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. This warning is issued following the identification of a recent surge in the dissemination of malicious content through platforms such as WhatsApp, email, and social media. This content encompasses videos, misleading images, .exe/.apk files, and phishing links disguised as news about the current conflict. Upon downloading these malicious links, malware may be installed on the user’s device. It can compromise the device’s operational integrity and facilitate unauthorized access to financial or social media accounts. Law enforcement authorities have recommended that the public exercise caution when downloading unfamiliar video or image files, refrain from installing apk files transmitted via messaging applications, and consistently observe standard cyber security practices.
