A simulated terrorist assault was executed within the Milan subway system, under the coordination of the Operations Department of the Provincial Commands of the Carabinieri of Milan and Brescia. The exercise replicated an exchange of gunfire between a group of armed terrorists and law enforcement officers patrolling the vicinity, succeeded by the seizure of civilian hostages and their confinement within the subway carriages. The simulation also included the deployment of the GIS (Special Intervention Group), supported by negotiators, a canine unit, and an explosive ordnance disposal team, with medical staff and emergency vehicles from the Red Cross standing by to assist. The four-hour simulation involved 110 Carabinieri officers, 40 healthcare professionals, and Red Cross volunteers, and was conducted in anticipation of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
