What happened

Two Bangladeshi citizens were apprehended in Palermo, Italy, on charges of apologising and incitement to commit crimes related to terrorism. The two suspects, aged 21 and 18 respectively, were found to have disseminated Islamic State propaganda material and expressed support for jihad, martyrdom, and the use of violence against ‘unbelievers’. The radicalised suspects allegedly engaged in a systematic search of the internet for propaganda and indoctrination material that glorified ISIS. They are also reported to have listened to and disseminated proclamations and messages that incited violence, martyrdom, and self-harm. In particular, one of the two individuals apprehended by law enforcement conducted a query of the artificial intelligence system, requesting information on the most effective methods to attack the victims. In the course of the investigations, evidence was uncovered of communications between the suspects and other users of social media who expressed support for jihad. The intelligence-gathering operation was initiated with surveillance activities by investigators on the Internet, with a particular emphasis on individuals associated with Islamic radicalism.
