ICAS srl, an ENEA spin-off company, has been awarded the Fusion Technology Transfer Award 2024, an initiative supported by the European Commission, EUROfusion, and Fusion for Energy (F4E). This honor recognizes the company’s expertise in the domain of conductors for nuclear fusion, specifically acknowledging its successful application of knowledge and professional capabilities to foster economic and social benefit. Established in 2010, ICAS was founded to manufacture superconducting cables for the ITER experimental reactor, a collaborative project involving Europe, Japan, the United States, Russia, China, India, and South Korea, currently under construction in Cadarache, France. More recently, ICAS has produced superconducting cables for DTT, the Italian experimental fusion research device presently being built at the ENEA Research Centre in Frascati. The expertise and capabilities developed by ICAS are also being utilized in other sectors, including the medical and high-field magnet industries, through participation in global Big Science projects, such as the provision of superconducting cables to research institutions, including NHMFL (USA), EMFL (Netherlands), and Helmholtz-Zentrum (Germany).
