What happened

A mass poisoning incident occurred at a cable factory in Kenitra, Morocco, where 145 female workers suffered asphyxiation and dyspnoea following a gas leak. The female workers were expeditiously transferred to the emergency department of Zemmouri Regional Hospital, where they received treatment, including oxygen therapy and medications for panic attacks. The patients were discharged within hours. Although the cause of the incident has not been officially disclosed, the most likely hypothesis is that a gas leak occurred inside the factory. A comparable incident occurred in February 2025 when a gas leak at a car parts factory resulted in at least 25 workers suffering asphyxiation. This event prompted government authorities to implement more stringent industrial safety standards and to initiate immediate action against those deemed responsible.
