The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a notification regarding a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella infections in North America. This outbreak, which has been linked to backyard poultry, has resulted in at least seven confirmed human infections across six states. The CDC has identified two cases in Missouri, and one case each in Florida, Illinois, South Dakota, Utah, and Wisconsin. The onset of symptoms in the affected individuals occurred during February and March of 2025. All patients were infected with the same strain of Salmonella, a variant previously associated with poultry hatcheries. Health authorities advise that the geographic scope of this outbreak may extend beyond the currently identified states, as many individuals recover without seeking medical intervention and, consequently, are not tested for Salmonella. The investigation is in progress, as stated on the official CDC website.
