Angola has leveraged existing infrastructures established to eradicate polio, including mobile teams, community surveillance networks, and logistics systems, adapting these to address the spread of cholera since the emergence of the first cases on January 7, 2025. Approximately one million people, including children and adults, were reached in the most affected provinces of Luanda, Bengo, and Icolo e Bengo and subjected to oral cholera vaccination (OCV) during the first campaign from 3 to 7 February 2025. The vaccination campaign was met with crucial technical support from the WHO, encompassing contributions to the formulation of vaccination plans, in addition to the training of vaccinators and those entrusted with surveillance and monitoring of the vaccination programme.
