On 30 April, the ordinance of the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, came into force. This ordinance imposes obligations and measures on citizens, and public and private entities to counter the proliferation of mosquitoes and prevent the spread of diseases transmitted by insect vectors, such as dengue fever. The ordinance contains a series of provisions and obligations aimed at implementing prevention campaigns against tiger mosquitoes and common mosquitoes. These include the obligation to disinfest private condominiums, the prohibition of abandoning containers in places where rainwater or stagnant water may collect, the obligation to provide for periodic grass cutting in uncultivated or unproductive land, and to treat manholes, drain grates, and rainwater collection wells, present in privately owned spaces. As Sabrina Alfonsi, the Councillor for the Environment, explained, the measures are necessary to raise awareness among the community of the importance of public health protection.
