Health authorities in Iloilo province are urging people to step up cleanup efforts and precautionary measures after a significant rise in dengue cases in the last four months. The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) logged 1,431 cases from January 1 to April 19, almost double the 788 cases recorded over the same period in 2024. The number of dengue deaths also increased from three to eight, with the most recent fatality in Dueňas town on April 10. The victim is a 20-year-old college student who first developed symptoms while staying in a boarding house in Iloilo City. After returning home to Dueňas, she was admitted to hospital where she passed away a few days later.
Authorities warned that the onset of the rainy season could worsen the situation, leading to further cases across the province. They urged the public to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, use insect repellent, and seek medical attention if developing symptoms.
