An unidentified source associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has stated that sodium perchlorate, a critical ingredient in solid rocket propellant, precipitated the extensive detonation and ensuing conflagration at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, a city situated in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan. This incident has thus far resulted in 25 fatalities and at least 800 injuries. The aforementioned source is reported to have provided this information to The New York Times. While the specific cause of the explosion remains undetermined, Iranian officials have not posited that the event was the result of sabotage or a premeditated assault.
