Local media sources have reported the seizure of personal hygiene products, namely creams, and gels, containing carcinogenic materials hazardous to public health, from a minimarket in Ancona. This incident occurred in 2022, during which a routine inspection by the Guardia di Finanza revealed the presence of hydroquinone among the ingredients of the products being offered for sale. The use of hydroquinone in skin cosmetics has been prohibited in Italy since 2000, and its use in hair dyes has been banned since 2005 due to its carcinogenic properties, which are linked to the development of certain tumors and severe skin conditions. The proprietor of the commercial establishment has been reported to the judicial authorities.
