Ongoing surveillance of carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations is being conducted in the Campi Flegrei region of Naples, Italy, with particular attention to enclosed spaces situated below ground level or lacking adequate ventilation, to identify potential instances of CO2 levels exceeding permissible limits. Measurements obtained by relevant authorities have resulted in the temporary closure of a school in Pozzuoli, due to the detection of elevated carbon dioxide concentrations within the school’s gymnasium. A coordination meeting of the Relief Coordination Center was convened by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, to address the necessity of expediting and prioritizing the inspection of educational facilities within the area most significantly affected by this phenomenon. In addition to fire service personnel, technical experts from the Vesuvian Observatory will also participate in these inspections.
