In November 2024, an unexploded ordnance from the Second World War (ERW) was found during work on private land in the area of Cala Grande, on Monte Argentario, province of Grosseto, Italy. The army’s bomb disposal unit, which intervened on the scene for safety reasons, considered it necessary to remove the device from the place where it was found so that it could be defused elsewhere. The safe removal of the ERW is scheduled for Tuesday 4 February. For this reason, the Mayor of Monte Argentario has ordered the temporary evacuation of the entire population of the area defined as a 200 metre clearance zone.
