What happened

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported second case of laboratory-confirmed human case of avian influenza A(H5N1) virus in the state of Texas (USA). The patient, aged over 18 years old, had a history of exposure to dairy cattle (cows) presumed to be infected with influenza A (H5N1) virus. Genome sequencing of the virus conducted at CDC laboratory did not reveal  any new mutations associated with increased transmission to humans. The patient did not report severe symptomas and is being monitoring. The risk of infection for the general population is considered low-to-moderate.
